Add 20 Years to Your Life

I often wonder if zombies can breathe under water. Being undead could be a pretty interesting superpower, minus the whole rotting body, attacking humans thing. I used to think that, given the option of any superpower, I’d choose flight or invisibility. But today I realized what my ultimate superpower would be: the ability to live without eating or sleeping.  I’ve done the math. We spend, at a minimum, 4 months a year nourishing and recharging ourselves. That’s a lot of time. Over the course of a lifetime, that adds up to more… Read More

Everyone needs a little chaos

What do you do, when passion runs a muck in your brain? When it consumes you and fuels insanity and opens doors to lands you’ve only read about in fairytales? Dance in the glitter- that’s what you do. And then dive headfirst into it, because to deny passion is to deny magic, I think.

Mind Games: Taming Goats and The Inspiring Moss Piglet

Most hill-lusting, mountain-addicts probably remember their first Moss Piglet – that moment when the challenge of the journey was accepted as a part of the experience. Rather than silence negativity, Moss Piglets adapt and are motivated by it. They crave harder, limit pushing experiences, knowing the payoff (and the high) will be that much better.

Strong, my kindred sister

Far more than physical, strength is in the mind. It’s the ability to push past our own boundaries, demolish the walls that scream “no you can’t”, and do more than you ever thought possible.  I love this friend-sister and hope everyone has people in their lives who inspire them 🙂  ~m.

Trail “Running”

Colorado trails harbor Flash-like athletes who have speed and agility like I had never seen until I actually lived here. I call them Trail Gazelles, and I aspire to be one.  I’m no stranger to jogging (read yogging). I grew up running at 5AM with my parents. Even though the sun wasn’t up, we’d slog through 80 degrees of heat and humidity, emerging with a feeling of accomplishment. And despite my living in Florida for 24 years, I’m also no stranger to hiking. I spent many of my summers tromping around the Appalachians or visiting Colorado to snag a 14er…. Read More

Weekend Exploration: Heart Lake

Every mountain top is within reach if you just keep climbing – Barry Finlay The Trail Description: Interested in hiking to this beautiful lake?  Its about 8.7 miles RT, pretty gradual elevation gain (total of about 2,000 ft) – but because of the length I would still say it is an intermediate level.  Love this hike because it has a large parking area, the trail is well maintained, and there are oh-so-many beautiful camping opportunities (non-developed sites) just at tree line at Roger’s Peak Lake and streams. Also, waterfalls. waterfalls waterfalls waterfalls. This trail is… Read More

Back to Basics

Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out going to the mountains is going home; that wilderness is a necessity… John Muir Photo is original and taken by me  Hi there. I know it’s been almost two years since my last post, but I think I’m finally in a place that will allow me to breathe some life into this blog. I live in Colorado now, Denver to be exact. The place of my birth. At the risk of sounding hippie or crazy-lady-new-age, it feels like a piece of me… Read More
